About Me
Meet Jerome
Hi. My name is Jerome and I am a Certified Personal Finance Counselor (CPFC),
Certified Retirement Counselor (CRC), Certified Medicaid Planner (CMP), licensed
insurance and real estate agent and practicing tax professional. I am a medical doctor
and nurse practitioner by training, and for several years was taking care of patients and
earning a high six figure income. However, despite grossing a lot of income and living
comfortably enough I was just getting by and not creating the wealth which I had
dreamed of for myself and my family. I didn’t know what was missing? What was I
doing wrong? My aha moment came after reading Robert Kiyosaki’s classic book, Rich
Dad, Poor Dad when I realized that the reason I was not moving forward like I
dreamed of was because I was having an employee mindset. That mode of thinking
had acquiesce myself into its comforting and stable way of life which unfortunately had
me working unwittingly for a company rather than for myself.
Following Robert’s advice, I started learning more about finances and educated myself.
I understood the different disadvantages of just focusing on becoming a “good
employee”. For one, instead of working for an income, I now focused on accumulating
assets. I also started my own personal financial counseling service. I realized I was not
the only one who was having this same problem of wealth creation. Like me, a lot of
people grew up with an employee mindset because of family, cultural or society
influences. And probably like me, they have no clue on why they are not able to
improve their financial situation. However, my approach to financial counseling is
different from the usual financial advice one receives from financial planners or wealth
advisors. These advisers focused on the return of investments, cost benefits, risk
tolerance and diversification of assets, which is undoubtedly important but are quite
technical in nature. As a result it tends to foster a dependence relationship on these
advisers. I wanted the opposite for my clients. I want my clients to be empowered,
independent and confident in their finances.
Due to my prior experience as a physician and nurse practitioner involved in treating
patients with chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and such mental
illnesses as anxiety and depression, I have been exposed to motivational interviewing
and cognitive behavioral therapy as a way of producing change in one’s thinking and
behavior. So, I merged the principles of these disciplines with the lessons of financial
planning and determinism in order to help employees break free from what I believe is
a severely limiting mindset. My goal is to help ordinary workers who have this goal
gain the knowledge and tools they need to change their vision, values and behavior in
order to create their own personal wealth confidently and independently. Furthermore, I
also redefined wealth creation as only one component of the more important overall
concept of personal well being which includes other elements such as health,
happiness and spiritual peace.
My personal mission and service to God is to advocate for the regular everyday
employees like you and me and provide you with the equipment needed to start your
own journey to financial freedom. Let me join you in your quest. You have a mentor,
supporter and counselor in me who has travelled and is still traveling with you on the
unending journey to financial abundance. I honestly believe that at the end of it all, the
world will definitely be a better place as a result of your contributions when you have
reached your own financial goals and aspirations. So, I encourage you, start believing
in yourself. Break free from the employee mindset. Take charge of your future and live
it on your own terms.
